Hayatou loses CAF election after 29-year reign, Tweeter reacts
Long-serving CAF President Issa Hayatou was on Thursday voted out of power as African football's leaders voted for his Madagascan opponent, bringing an end to Hayatou's 29-year reign.
Hayatou, 70 from Cameroon who replaced Abdel Halim Mohammad in 1988 as the confederation president was defeated by 57-year-old Madagascan football administrator, Ahmad Ahmad by 34 votes to 20, thus bringing to an end Hayatou's tenure as FIFA senior vice president and dumping him from the world body's ruling council.
The surprise victory at the 54 member Caf’s 39th General Assembly in Addis Ababa, provided a seismic shakeup for soccer on the continent, and prompted shock and celebration across social media, with many fans, pundits and observers celebrating the victory
