Dust storms expected in Cyprus on Thursday and Friday

Dust storms carried from North Africa by southern air currents are expected to create air pollution in the southern Mediterranean region on Thursday March 8th and Friday March 9 announced the Department of Meteorology.

The Met Office in a statement, said that dust from the Sahara is on its way and will continue to be in the air until the weekend, when rain is expected and recommended that asthmatics and those sensitive to dust should remain indoors.

Dust storms in the region are a common occurrence on the Cyprus island every year between February and April, causing pollution affecting humans, animals and agriculture.

We advised that vulnerable people such as children and the elderly or the unwell to take caution and remain indoors.
