Cyprus talks: The north still waiting for Greek Cypriot side to correct its mistake - Akinci

Turkish Cypriot President, Mustafa Akınci has said that the north were still waiting for the Greek Cypriot side to correct its mistake on Enosis day vote.

Akinci said the Greek Cypriot administration tried to portray the Turkish Cypriot side as a community with no political will, with its recent statements but stressed that he had not given up on a possible solution to the Cyprus problem, despite everything that has happened.
“If they overturn this decision we will return to the table the next day” Akinic said, adding that “the Turkish Cypriot side wants neighbours who would understand and assess correctly their rightful and justified reaction.”
Akinci also expressed his disappointment over the comments made by Greek Cypriot president Nicos Anastasiades’ who said Akinci had left the negotiations table on orders from Turkey.
“Anastasiades is still trying to portray the Turkish Cypriots as a people without a political will who has no opinion on these issues. There couldn’t be a worst mistake than this,” said Akinci.
He said that the claims were far from reflecting the truth.
“They know this better than anyone. They saw this in Geneva, in Mont Pelerin. It was them who didn’t take any steps. They asked for a 10 day break and went to Athens but they still try to underestimate us with such remarks. I strongly reject these claims” Akinci said.
