Candid photos of Adolf Hitler sold for $41,000 to unidentified bidder
A rare black and white exclusive photographs of Adolf Hitler reportedly recovered from his mistress' bunker has been sold for $41,000 to an unidentified bidder at an auction on Wednesday in Royal Tunbridge Wells,
Britain, said the auctioneers.
The
photos, chilling in their casual depiction of the evil
dictator, were among dozens of images of Nazi officials in an album that
was discovered among the belongings of his companion, Eva Braun, in
Hitler’s bunker in Berlin in 1945, according to C&T Auctioneers of
Britain.
One of the photo show Hitler reading on a deck chair on the veranda of his Bavarian Alps
headquarters. In another image, he pauses during a stroll, an easy grin
on his face. He looks into the camera, as smiling onlookers look at
him.
The album was acquired by a photographer in 1945. He saw a Russian
soldier take it out of Eva Braun's bedroom drawer, shortly after Hitler
and Eva committed suicide, leaving little doubt about its authenticity.
Eva Braun and Adolf Hitler got married in April 29, 1945 and committed suicide
together the following day.
She was a photographer and an assistant to
Hitler's personal photographer in the years prior to her death.
