Air India set new world record for all-female crew flight round the world

India's national airline, Air India says it has set a new world record by flying around the world with an entirely all-female crew.

According to reports, the Air India Boeing 777 flight, flew over the Pacific Ocean from New Delhi, India to San Francisco, US on Monday last week, covering around 9,500 miles (15,300 km) and then made a return trip back to New Delhi over the Atlantic on Friday.

Apart from all the pilots and cabin crew being all-female, all ground staff working with the plane - including safety auditors, engineers, air traffic controllers, check-in and other ground staff were all women.

Flight Captains Sunita Narula, Kshamta Bajpai, Indira Singh and Gunjan Aggarwal all shared piloting duties on the 15.5 hour long flights.
 
According to report, the airline has applied to Guinness World Records to be recognised for the feat.

The flight was part of celebrations for International Women's Day, which falls on Wednesday.
