Twitter users blasts Donald Trump after pulling out of White House Correspondents' Dinner

Twitter users has taken to the social media site to blast US president, Donald Trump after he announced that he will not be attending the White House Correspondents' Dinner but gave no reason why he wouldn't attend.Trump on Saturday announced on Twitter that he doesn’t plan to attend the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner at the end of April this year.

Despite Trump's decision not to attend, the dinner will go on without him, said Jeff Mason, the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association.

Trumps' move comes less than 24 hours after the White House barred journalists from several top media outlets from attending House briefing amid growing tensions between his administration and media outlets, he calls the FAKE NEWS.

The White House Correspondents' Association is an organization of journalists whose job it is to cover the president. It began in 1920 and is traditionally held on the last Saturday of April every year at the Washington Hilton which usually include an appearance each year from the sitting president.

Former presidents, including President Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton have all attended the event in the past, with Calvin Coolidge, being the first US president to attend the dinner in 1924.

Former president, Barack Obama has in the past used the event to mock people in Washington D.C. himself and beyond, following a tradition set by past Presidents.

The last US president to skip the Correspondents' Dinner was Ronald Reagan in 1981, and at the time he was recovering from an assassination attempt and despite missing the dinner, Reagan was able to phone in to participate in the dinner.
Trump attended the dinner in 2011 with his wife Melania where he was repeatedly mocked by then-president Barack Obama and in 2016, he skipped the dinner during the presidential campaign where Obama again took aim at the then-candidate, saying:
'I'm a little hurt that he's not here tonight. It's surprising. You got a room full of reporters, celebrities, cameras, and he says no.'
Twitter went in an overdrive mood following Trump's decision as users mocked him with funny memes and comments.
