Turkey's president approves referendum on presidency

Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday February 10, 2017 signed a bill for approval of a national vote on April 16 in a referendum on changing the country’s constitution that would concentrate more authority on the presidency by replacing the current parliamentary system of government with the executive system.

The new proposal if accepted by majority of Turkish, would give more power to the president to issue decrees, declare emergency rule, appoint ministers and top state officials and dissolve parliament.

Also it could see President Erdogan remain in power until 2029.
