This week we shall we looking at the topic "Who is Tim Berners-Lee?"

In 3 hours I had collected over 100 views on my blog, every single one of them on one article. I could barely believe it, at a point WordPress even notified me that i was getting an usual surge in my blog viewings. To put this in perspective, in 3 weeks since inception of the blog, I had gotten just over 300 views and now in about one-eighth of a day I had gotten over a 100.

Normally, this news would excite me, it only made me disillusioned. I knew why so much more people where reading that article, it wasn’t because i had suddenly become a good writer or because I was breaking an important story, No! it was almost solely because the article was about celebrity gossip. it was about “Celebrity Fights”. I had never previously covered celebrities on my blog mainly because I think many of them are irrelevant and i never want to delve into gossip.

So it was more disheartening than exciting to see more people interested in the fight between Olamide and Don Jazzy than what is causing the fuel scarcity which has done nothing but make life a living hell.

Which brings me back to my first question “Who is Tim Berners-Lee?”. If you are reading this article, there is a 98% chance that you know who Kim Kardashian is, I’m not making this numbers up from my head, there’s an actual study that says 98% of internet users know who Kim Kadashian is. Most of these people can identify her by picture. If you know that information and you don’t know who Tim Berners-Lee is, I’m sorry you should be somewhat ashamed of yourself.

Because, right now, at this very moment Tim Berners-Lee is contributing positively to your life. I know this for a FACT because he was the one who created the World Wide Web and has defined the Internet as you know it today. You are reading this article right now because of Tim Berners-Lee and people like him.

Even with that knowledge of him i don’t suggest you obsess over him and his every living. I don’t expect you to care about what names he gave his Son or Daughter, Or what he said on an awards stage and if he got into a fight. I know you don’t care about him like that (you barely know his name) but neither should you care what Kim K named her baby and Who Olamide fought with. If you take time to think of it, if you are going to obsess about someone who is more deserving Tim Berners-Lee or Kanye West?

If you are thinking “people are the ones always writing these things, I’m just reading it”, “Its some people that are just showing it on TV, I’m just following”. Look at the graph below. The colours in blue are what i consider important information, the colour in orange i consider NOT so important information, however, see the difference in readership.

You are not reading unimportant stuff because people are writing it. On the contrary, People are writing unimportant stuff because you are reading it!

So Please,Please, next time you feel the urge to open the article Titled “Kim Kadashian is in love again”, “Don Jazzy and D’banj in new war of words” or any of the other headlines that scream gossip. please ask yourself this question “Who is Tim Berners-Lee?”.
