Queen Elizabeth II mark sapphire jubilee

Elizabeth II who is the world's longest reigning sovereign, on Monday February 6th made history as she becomes the first British monarch to reach the Sapphire Jubilee after spending 65 years on the throne.

Elizabeth who will become 91 in April February 6, became Queen in 1952 at the age of 25 following the death of her father, King George VI. Her 65 years anniversary on the throne is a milestone unmatched by any other British monarch and to mark the occasion, Buckingham Palace have re-released a photograph of the Queen wearing distinctive sapphire jewellery.
As is the tradition, Royal gun salutes will be staged in London on Monday.
