Foreign students contributes massively to TRNC budget
North Cyprus is regarded as one of the most friendly destination for students around the world seeking quality and cheap education. As we may know, North Cyprus is a country whose economy is buoyed by tourism and education.
And to buttress this fact the undersecretary for the State Planning Organisation (DPO), Odul Muhtaroglu in a recent briefing said that students from Turkey, Africa and other pars of Asia and Europe coming to study in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, TRNC greatly contributes to the country's economy.
He noted that the revenue received from higher education in 2016 amounted to half of the country's budget before adding that students stay in the TRNC for 9-10 months every year during which time they spend money in different sectors of the economy.
He also said that the revenue received from higher education in 2015 was $636.2 million, $535.6 million dollars in 2013 and $589.8 million in 2014 adding that the revenue for 2016 was the highest which stood at $661 million.
According to Muhtaroglu, there are 15 higher institutions of learning operating in the TRNC, boasting about 93, 000 students with about 80,000 from Turkey and the rest from Africa and other parts of Europe and Asia.
