Facebook set to launch new television app

Facebook has become a major player in global media as it continues to dominate social media — and now it’s moving into living rooms with a new TV app.

After launching on desktop computers and mastering smartphones, Facebook is taking on YouTube and Netflix in the music and video industry after it announced it's plans on Tuesday February 14, to launch a video app that will enable owners of Apple TV, Amazon’s Fire TV and Samsung’s Smart TVs to watch user-generated clips, shows, or music content directly on their big screens from the living room.

This comes after the 13-year-old business began paying publishers and celebrities for exclusive “premium” video content, and pushing its Facebook Live feature, which allows users to stream live events, ranging from political rallies and births to at least one suicide.

The video app is expected to roll out "soon" to these three TV platforms, with others to come later and is expected to position Facebook to grab a share of lucrative TV advertising budgets.

According to founder, Mark Zuckerberg, he said;
"I see video as a megatrend on the same order as mobile. That's why we're going to keep putting video first across our family of apps and making it easier for people to capture and share video in new ways."
