English Premier League clubs post transfer window profit for first time

The January transfer window has come and gone and for the first time, the English Premier League clubs have made a profit in a transfer window despite near-record spending in a January transfer window.

According to analysis by consultants Deloitte, English top flight clubs spent an estimated 215 million pounds in the transfer window but on the positive side, it brought in 40 million pounds more than they paid out.

The figure take the leagues total spending for 2016/17 to almost 1.4 billion pounds, breaking last season’s record of a combined one billion for the summer and January windows, making the Premier League as Europe’s biggest spenders.
Second on the list of top spenders is French Ligue 1, with a total of about 130 million pounds splashed out in January, followed by the German Bundesliga with 85 million and Italy’s Serie A on 80 million while the Spanish La Liga spent about 20 million pounds, but lets not forget that Real Madrid and Aletico Madrid were banned from signing players.

According to Deloitte, four players accounted for the bulk of the Premier League’s net receipts as Chelsea sold midfielder Oscar to Shanghai SIPG for a reported 60 million euros while Watford sold striker Odion Ighalo to Changchun Yatai for a reported 20 million pounds on transfer deadline day.

The others are West Ham United's midfielder Payet who moved to Marseille for 25 million pounds and Manchester United winger Memphis Depay who was sold to French side Olympique Lyonnais for 16 million euros.
