Cyprus Talks: Reverses 1950 Enosis decision and i will return to the negotiation table - Akinci
Turkish Cyprus president Mustafa Akinci has that he will return to the negotiations table the very next day if the Greek Cypriot side reverses a decision to commemorate
the 1950 Enosis referendum in secondary schools.
Recall that Akinci on Thursday last week accused Greek Cyprus president Nicos Anastasiades of walking out of the negotiation table after he voiced his concerns over the decision by the Greek Cypriot parliament to introduce an annual commemoration of the 1950 referendum on the island’s union with Greece (Enosis) in public secondary schools, which Nicos Anastasiades denied insisting that it was Akinci who walked out of the meeting between the two leaders.
Akinci challenged the Greek Cypriot government stating that he would be ready to resume talks the very next day should the Greek Cyprus side reversed its decision to commemorate the 1950 Enosis.

“I dare them! Let them fix this mistake and I will be at the negotiating table the next day! Then we’ll see who received instructions and who didn’t,” he said.According to Akinci, the Turkish Cypriot side is not hiding behind any excuses as to back out of the negotiations but said;
No one could accept a decision aimed at indoctrinating school children with notions of Enosis instead of promoting a culture of peace which was necessary for a federal partnership.Akinci also went further to note that failure to reach a Cyprus settlement will be the source of renewed tensions over energy reserves in the Eastern Mediterranean.
