Usain Bolt and teammates stripped of Olympic gold medal

Jamaica sprinter, Usain Bolt, along with other teammates including Michael Frater, Nesta Carter and Asafa Powell has been stripped of their 4x100-meter relay Olympic gold medal from the Beijing Games in 2008 after Nesta Carter was found guilty of doping announced the International Olympic Committee on Wednesday.

The IOC said Carter tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a banned stimulant, in a retest of samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
“The Jamaican team is disqualified” and “the corresponding medals, medalist pins and diplomas are withdrawn and shall be returned,” said the IOC.
Though Carter had initially tested negative after the race in 2008, but a retest of his sample by the I.O.C. last year discovered that he took a prohibited stimulant.

With the development, Trinidad and Tobago will be in line to be awarded the gold medal from 2008, while Japan and fourth place finisher Brazil could be upgraded to silver, and bronze medals respectively.
