US hits Russian with more sanctions

The US on Monday announced new sanctions on Russia after it blacklisted five Russians, including a senior law enforcement official to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

 US officials said the new economic sanctions against the five Russians are not related to the US intelligence agencies findings of Russia's involvement in US elections hacking, but instead are connected to a 2012 US law punishing Russian human rights violators. 

Under the sanctions, their assets are frozen in the US and Americans banned from doing business with them.
