United Nations humanitarian chief, Stephen O'Brien has warned that the
humanitarian crisis caused by terrorist group Boko Haram's "violent and inhuman
campaign" in
northeast Nigeria and parts of Cameroon, Chad and Niger is worsening, leaving more than 10.7 million people in need of aid.
O'Brien on Thursday told the UN Security Council that although Boko
Haram has lost much of the territory it once controlled as a result of
military operations in the region, though its raids and suicide bombings targeting civilians
are still causing widespread death and destruction.
He noted that the crisis has grown "in dramatic fashion" over the past 12 months.
