Queen Elizabeth ‘nearly shot’ by palace guardsman: Report

The Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth narrowly escaped being shot when one of the guardsmen attached to the palace in London mistook her for an intruder during a late night walk in the palace garden at about 3 a.m., media report claimed on Thursday.

The 90-year-old monarch who is known for her fondness of walking around the palace garden in the past and often when she can't sleep was taking one of such walks, dressed in a winter coat, when a former guardsman came across the Queen and taking precaution, asked, “Who’s that?” and it was only then that he realised it was the Queen.

According to ‘The Times’ diary column, the guard is reported to have said; “Bloody hell, Your Majesty, I nearly shot you,” to which the Queen then replied:

“That’s quite all right. “Next time I’ll ring through beforehand so you don’t have to shoot me.”

It is believed that the encounter happened several years ago.
