Pope Francis in a personal message to Donald Trump, has congratulated him on his inauguration as the new president of the US and urged him to show concern for the poor, the outcast and those in need who.

Pope Francis offered prayers for Trump that God should grant him wisdom and strength in the exercise of his high office.” 

The pope also prayed that Trump's decisions will be guided by the "rich spiritual and ethical values" that have shaped America's history.

"Under your leadership, may America's stature continue to be measured above all by its concern for the poor, the outcast and those in need," the pontiff said.
