Trump supporters move to block election vote recount

Supporters of US president-elect Donald Trump have moved to block election vote recount in three swing states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to maintain his narrow victories, by filing legal challenges aimed at halting the Green Party's requests for a recounts of the presidential votes.
The Green Party said its requests for election votes recounts in those states are centered on ensuring the integrity of the US voting system and not on changing the result of the election and even if the recounts take place, they are highly unlikely to change the overall outcome of the election.

According to the Green Party candidate, Jill Stein, who got only about 1 per cent of the vote, she said the recount campaign is not targeted at either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

On Friday, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, a Republican, said he had filed a lawsuit to halt the requested recount in his state.
Recounting all of the state's votes "threatens to silence all Michigan votes for president" because of an impending federal deadline to finalise the state's results, Schuette said in a statement.
The presidential election is decided by the Electoral College, or a tally of wins from the state-by-state contests, rather than by the popular national vote which favored the Democratic candidate, Clinton who had 2.5 million more votes than Trump.

Trump surpassed the 270 electoral votes needed to win, receiving 306 electoral votes to Clinton's 232 electoral vote.
