The Turkish Republic of North Cyprus TRNC government on Monday altered the working hours for public workers in North Cyprus.
According to the deputy PM and Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş who made the announcement on Monday, he said the government and trade unions have reached an agreement over working hours in the North.
According to the agreement, public sector working hours will now be between 8:30am and 3:30pm with the exception of Thursdays which will be between 8:30am-1:00pm and 2pm-6pm. While classes will start at 8:30am.
Turkish Cypriot unions and students had been staging series of protests and strikes over the past two weeks following a tragic road accident that claimed the lives of two school children and the bus driver, demanding that the government set the clocks back to Daylight Saving Time (DST)
