Pupils and Turkish Cypriots stage protests over deadly school bus crash that killed three

About 2000 Turkish Cypriots including 500 pupils on Thursday endured the heavy rain to staged a protest over the deaths of three people including two teenage girls and the bus driver, who were killed on Tuesday when a school bus crashed into a truck on Pentadaktylos, in Kyrenia- Dağyolu area of North Cyprus.

According to reports, another pupil and the driver’s wife were said to be in serious condition.

The protest called by the confederation of unions started at 8am with pupils gathering outside the office of ‘Prime Minister’ Huseyin Ozgurgun and were later joined by more people.

According to Cyprus Mail, the demonstrators shouted slogans like “murdering government you will be held accountable” and “murdering state”.

The protesters called on the official to sell his Mercedes and use the money to build better roads and at some point the demonstrators managed to push through the iron doors of the building but they were held back by riot police report the Cyprus Mail.

It was the second day in a row that pupils took to the streets to call on the Turkish Cypriot administration to resign, holding it responsible for the deaths.

They blamed the crash on the poor state of the roads and the fact that the north was still on summer time, like Turkey reports Cyprus Mail.
