German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, calls for burqa ban in Germany as she seek for a fourth term

German chancellor Angela Merkel, 62 on Tuesday called for burqa ban ‘wherever is legally possible’ in Germany adding that the refugee crisis “must never be repeated.” She made the call while addressing members of her political party, CDU, at the conservative party’s conference while making her pitch for a fourth term as Chancellor.

She told the annual congress that it was legitimate to expect integration from immigrants, underlining her party’s bid to ban the full face veil.
"The full-face veil is not acceptable in our country," she told delegates in Essen, sparking rapturous applause. "It should be banned, wherever it is legally possible.
The call marks a U-turn for CDU party leaders, who have previously expressed doubt  of a full ban despite the increasing calls for the ban among rank and file members.

Merkel had months earlier, said she believed the Islamic clothing hindered women from being fully integrated into the German society.

Also, a week before Merkel made the call, Dutch MPs had voted to ban the Islamic full-face veil from some public places, including schools. However, the legislation will have to be approved by the senate before it becomes a law.

Merkel also stressed her determination to ensure that there’s will be no repeat of last year’s huge influx of migrant into the country as she seeks a new two-year term in charge of her conservative party.

She also made several pledges including; backing a nationwide ban on wearing the burka, to bring the refugee crisis under control and also to strengthen the forces of law and order, especially as regards to managing immigrants and the immigration process.
