Electoral College hands Donald Trump the presidency
US president-elect, Donald Trump's election victory was officially upheld on Monday December, 19th 2016 after electors from across the US meet at their individual state-houses to give him more than the 270 votes needed
to win the presidency, despite serious campaign to dump him and vote for another candidate.
Trump pulled 304 electoral votes as against rival Hillary Clinton who received 224 votes to become the next US president on November 8, but Clinton surpassed Trump with almost three million popular votes.

"faithless" electors voted for other candidates, reducing Trump's initial votes by two and Clinton's by four. Four electors from Washington, who switched their votes at Clinton's expense which she won handily, cast their ballots for someone else, three to Colin Powell and one for "Faith Spotted Eagle" while one elector cast his ballot for John Kasich and another for Ron Paul at Trump's expense.
