Is the US president-elect Donald Trump about to be stopped despite winning the presidential election?

There is a petition claiming that US president-elect Donald Trump is unfit to serve as the president of the United State following his victory over Hillary Clinton at the just concluded US presidential election on 8th November 2016.

The Electoral College is now urging that Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton be made the president and more than three million signatures has already been signed in respect to the bill.

There has been series of protest in several cities across the US since Trump's surprised victory at the presidential election as US citizens protest against the outcome of the result.

An online petition has been set up demanding that the Electoral College, who still have to cast their votes to seal Trump's presidency, go against the will of the people and instead elect Clinton as president of the US.

The petition on Change.org which was created by Elijah Berg, is demanding the Electoral College, which is made up of party members elected by local people to represent them in Congress, take advantage of this constitutional loophole.

The petition which urges electors to ignore their states’ vote states that:

"Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic."
"Hillary won the popular vote. The only reason Trump "won" is because of the Electoral College" he added.
According to reports, the petition looks set to reach the 4.5 million signatures mark in the coming days.

Because of a loophole in the US Constitution, the Electoral College are given another vote to determine who becomes president, even after the electorate has voted.

The Electoral College is set to meet on December 19 and should an elector vote against the will of the people - known as going ‘faithless’ - then it could have a huge influence on who becomes the next US president.

According to the US political history, going faithless is very rare. The most recent faithless vote came in 2004 when an anonymous Minnesota voter decided not to vote for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry but instead voted for his running mate, John Edwards.

In the past faithless voters have not yet managed to reverse an election result, but going by the currently petition and uproar surrounding Trump’s victory, Clinton might just have a slim chance to sneak into the White House.
