Lionel Messi and I do not have a 'big rivalry'- Cristiano Ronaldo
Portugal and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has said he doesn't have a big rivalry with Barcelona's star Lionel Messi.
Speaking to Coach magazine, the 31-year-old said and instead there is a "big mutual respect" between him and Messi, 29.
The duo have been ranked the two best players in recent years and have both delivered consistently for both club and country.
Asked which opponent he admires the most, Ronaldo said:

"There is a big mutual respect between myself and Lionel Messi. The media like to make out like we have this big rivalry, but we don't. It is not like we are good friends, but there is a mutual respect on both sides."When asked who has been the key influence on his career, the Portugal national men's football team captain cited himself.
"My biggest inspiration has always been myself; nobody puts bigger demands on me than me.On which teammate had been his biggest inspiration, he said;
"I said I admired Figo and Rui Costa, but I never wanted to emulate anybody -- I have just always focused on being the best me I can."The three time Ballon D'or winner also talked about the most important lesson football has taught him, saying;
"To use negative people and experiences to motivate you. I actually need my haters -- they have helped me achieve all I have achieved."
