Dylan finally breaks silence, accepts Nobel Prize award, says the award left me speechless

Nobel Prize winner Bob Dylan, 75 has finally accepted the 2016 Nobel Prize for literature award, said the Swedish Academy, adding that receiving the prestigious academy award left him "speechless".

Dylan who was awarded the prize on October 13, became the first singer-songwriter to be awarded the Nobel prize "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition".

The academy's permanent secretary, Sara Danius, told Sweden's TT news agency that Dylan had contacted them on Tuesday and told them "of course" he would accept the prize.

According to a statement posted on the academy's website on Friday, it said;
"The news about the Nobel Prize left me speechless," Dylan told Danius. "I appreciate the honour so much."
Danius added that it is not yet known whether Dylan will attend any Nobel events in Stockholm, Sweden in December.

Dylan at first was silent after he was announced the recipient of the award, a move that drew criticism from a member of the Swedish Academy who described the silence as "impolite and arrogant".
