Cyprus Talks: Progress achieved at every meeting so far

Issues that had been agreed upon, what remained and where differences continued have been discussed, said Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustapha Akinci after his meeting with Greek Cypriot president, Nicos Anastasiades on Monday in continuation of this month's intensive reunification talks.

Akinci said that both leaders were making further progress at every meeting and so were optimistic about developments.

According to Akinci, though they have yet to discuss the two main chapters, but they had discussed and made progress on four chapters and were therefore optimistic about the remaining two chapters.

Akinci also noted that there would be three more meetings in October scheduled on the 24th, 26th, and 31st October and that if need be, a few more meetings could be scheduled at the beginning of November.

He also said that the issue of territory could be discussed abroad, and in a neutral country, adding that work towards this end was ongoing.
“Although some differences remain, we don’t want the future generation to live with the problems we had, we want them to have a different, peaceful future”, he said.
