Cyprus Talks: Leaders agree to discuss territorial issues in Mont Pelerin, Switzerland

Following a five-hours meeting between Greek Cypriot president Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akinci on Wednesday, both leaders agreed that discussions on territorial adjustments will take place in Mont Pelerin, Switzerland.

According to The Cyprus Mail, both leaders choose to travel abroad for the talks which will hold from November 7-11, to prevent any leaks that may potentially hinder the talks.

Speaking to news men after the meeting president Nicos Anastasiades said;
“It was decided on the transfer to Switzerland, and more specifically to Monte Pelerin,” “The aim is to discuss the territory issue but also any other possible outstanding issues”.
Anastasiades said each leader will be accompanied by his negotiating team. 

An announcement by UNFICYP said the intensive week of negotiations in Switzerland which will focus on territory and other separate and unresolved issues will be conducted under the auspices of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus, Mr. Espen Barth Eide”.

The announcement added that the leaders expressed their hope that the meeting in Switzerland will lead to the final phase of the negotiations in line with their shared commitment to do their utmost in order to reach a settlement within 2016.”  

The leaders have instructed their negotiators to meet in their stead on Monday October, 31 since they have completed their discussions ahead of the meeting in Switzerland said the announcement.
“The two leaders wish to express their gratitude to the Government of Switzerland for its generosity in offering to host this event. The leaders will be accompanied in Switzerland by their negotiating teams and relevant subject matter experts,” read the announcement.
