American Airlines flight bursts into flames in Chicago, 21 injured
Video footage has emerged of the moment an American Airline passengers were being evacuated on the runway at the Chicago's O’Hare International Airport after the plane burst into flames on Friday afternoon injuring 21 people.
The footage was filmed by a passenger Hector Gustavo Cardenas who was on board the American Airlines Flight 383 carrying 161 and nine crew passengers en-route from Chicago to Miami when it burst into flame.
The clip shows shocked passengers panically running out of the plane shouting “Go, go, go” while others were heard saying, “Oh my God”.The footage was filmed by a passenger Hector Gustavo Cardenas who was on board the American Airlines Flight 383 carrying 161 and nine crew passengers en-route from Chicago to Miami when it burst into flame.
According to reports, pilots were forced to abort a take-off when the plane experienced an unusual and serious type of engine failure.
Footage also shows flames and heavy black smoke coming out of the plane.
Officials says at least 21 people were injured in the incident.
The spokeswoman for American Airlines Leslie Scott said in a statement that the plane had “an engine-related mechanical issue” adding that buses were sent to transfer 161 passengers and nine crew members from the runway to the terminal.
The FAA said it was investigating the fire incident.
