Turks protest attack of young woman over shorts in Istanbul
Turkey: Turkish citizens on Sunday gathered in central Istanbul donning shorts in protests condemning the assault of a young nurse who
was attacked on a public bus for wearing shorts, as demonstrators were heard chanting "Don't interfere with my shorts!"
The nurse identified as Aysegul Terzi, was kicked in the face by a man, Abdullah Cakiroglu, on Monday September 12 in Istanbul.
The protest on Sunday was aimed at showing solidarity with the Aysegul Terzi for the assault on her.
According to Turkish news reports, Cakiroglu confessed to attacking Terzi for what he described as her "inappropriate" dressing, and was released from custody despite expressing no remorse for his actions.
Cakiroglu was later re-arrested on charges of inciting hatred and interfering with the right to freedom after a public uproar.
Critics on social media, are accusing the Turkish authorities of showing unvoiced approval of Cakiroglu's actions.
Another ''shorts'' protest is scheduled for the capital Ankara.
