Tulsa police officer charged with manslaughter in death of unarmed black man

US: US police officer Betty Shelby who fatally shot and killed a 40-year-old unarmed black man on a city street on Friday September 16, have been charged with first-degree manslaughter by prosecutors in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler filed the charge less than a week after Betty Shelby shot and killed Terence Crutcher.

Kunzweiler said arrangements were ongoing for Shelby's surrender
"I do not know why things happen in this world the way they do," Kunzweiler said.
Kunzweiler who thinks he determined first-degree manslaughter the appropriate charge said;
"We need to pray for wisdom and guidance."
Footage of dashcam and aerial helicopter view of the shooting and its aftermath showed Crutcher walking away from Shelby with his arms up in the air.

Shelby's lawyer has said Crutcher was not following police commands, adding that Shelby opened fire when Crutcher began to reach into his car window.

Crutcher's family quickly dismissed the claim, saying the father of four posed no threat to the cops.

The family also made reference to an enlarged photo from police footage that appears to show Crutcher's car window was rolled up.

Police report said Crutcher did not have gun on him or in his vehicle.

Shelby could face a minimum of four years in prison if convicted.
