US: A little 9-year-old girl, Zianna Oliphant delivered a heartbreaking speech inside the packed Charlotte City Council meeting on Monday
night. Zianna's brave speech which have gone viral is the speech all of America needed to hear at a time when there is a growing unrest owing to the fatal shooting of black men and women by the police in the US.
Ziannna delivere her speech in tears as she could no longer control her emotions before her audience. The council meeting comes less than a week after police shot and killed Kieth Lamont Scott, 43. According to reports, Scott was reportedly standing with his hands by his side when police opened fire at an apartment complex.
Police said Scott made a threatening movement with a gun, a claim his family denied saying he was reading a book.
Following Scott's death, protests against the killing of black people broke out for a week, resulting in a state of emergency and mass hysteria as children like Zianna were caught up in the fear.
Zianna began her speech saying;
“I’m here today to talk about how I feel”
“I feel like that we are treated differently than other people and I don’t like how we’re treated just because of our colour” and just then tears began to roll down her cheek.She continued in her tears as the audience urged her: “Do not stop”.
“We are black people and we shouldn’t have to feel like this. We shouldn’t have to protest because y’all are treating us wrong. We do this because we need to and we have rights, she continued.
“I’ve been born and raised in Charlotte and I never felt this way until now. I can’t stand how we’re treated. It’s a shame that our fathers and mothers are killed and we can’t see them anymore.
“It’s a shame that we have to go to their graveyard and bury them ... that we have tears and we shouldn’t have tears. We need our fathers and mothers to be by our side.”
