Wild fires spread in southern France, injures four

France: France minister of Interior, Bernard Cazeneuve says four firemen have been wounded with three of them seriously affected during a major firefighting operation to put off several wild fires that broke out in various parts of southern France on Wednesday.

Speaking to French newschannel BFM TV, Bernard said about 1200 firemen battled the blazes, backed up by firefighting aircraft.

The town of Fos-sur-Mer, 40km northwest of Marseille, France's second-biggest city where petrochemical plants are located was affected by one of the fires.

High winds aided the spread of the fires, with thick smoke visible across the region.

According to the local airport's website, several commercial flights leaving Marseille were either canceled or delayed.
