US set to take in 10,000 Syrian refugees

US: The US is set to receive Syrian refugees as part of president Obama's administration to meet its goal of accepting 10,000 Syrian refugees a month ahead of schedule, said the White House.

The national security advisor Susan Rice in a statement said the 10,000th Syrian refugee was scheduled to arrive in the United States on Monday afternoon, .

The US had pledged to admit at least 10,000 Syrian refugees during the current fiscal year, which ends at the end of September.
"While refugee admissions are only a small part of our broader humanitarian efforts in Syria and the region, the president understood the important message this decision would send, not just to the Syrian people but to the broader international community," Rice said.
The admission of Syrian refugees into the US by the government has been a point of discussion in the ongoing 2016 presidential race with the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump warning that extremist militants could gain access into the US disguising as refugees.

Trump has mentioned during his campaign that if he is elected president he would convinced Gulf states to bankroll a safe zones for Syrian refugees so they would not have to be taken into the United States.
