US police officer shot dead in Georgia by an unidentified suspect

US: A police officer, Tim Smith who is in his early 30s was on Saturday shot and killed by an unidentified suspect who remains on the run in a small, central Georgia city said authorities.
According to special agent Scott Whitley of the Georgia Bureau investigators, the Eastman Patrol Officer was fatally shot in a residential area of the city located about 60 miles southeast of Macon.

Whitley said Smith was responding to a suspicious call from a person when he meet the suspect, then came out of his patrol car and was shot while the suspect fled the scene of the attack.

No further information about Smith was immediately available according to Whitley as the unidentified suspect is being sought and an investigation is ongoing, he added.
