Suspended Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff impeached
Brazil: Suspended Brazil’s president Dilma Rouseff has been impeached on Wednesday after sixty-one senators reportedly voted in favour of her impeachment with 20 senators voting against, meeting the two-thirds majority required to remove her from
office report Brazilian press.
According to a BCC report, acting president Michel Temer will serve out Ms Rousseff’s term, which ends on January 1, 2019.
The Brazilian Senate impeached President Dilma Rousseff from office for allegedly manipulating the state budget after she was accused by lawmakers for re-assigning funds between budget items.
The senate suspended Ms Rousseff from office in May after the Senate had voted to go ahead with the impeachment process.
According to reports by the BBC, critics of Rousseff said she was trying to plug deficit holes in popular social programmes to boost her chances of being re-elected for a second term in October 2014.
Ms Rousseff denied any wrong doing describing the attempt to remove her as president a coup d’etat.
Her impeachment brings to an end the 13 years rule of her Workers’ Party.
