Nigerians reacts as ISIS names Al-Barnawi new Boko Haram leader
Nigeria: Islamic State group (ISIS) has named former Boko Haram’s spokesperson Abu Musab
al-barnawi as the new Boko Haram leader replacing Abubakar Shekau reported the British
Broadcasting Corporation on Wednesday.
The BBC also reported that Al-Barnawi is featured in ISIS’ latest magazine.
It is not immediately clear what would or has become of the former terrorist group leader, Abubakar Shekau, who had led the group since 2009 when its founder, Mohammed Yusuf, was killed.
Boko Haram in 2015 pledged allegiance to ISIS and since then not much had been heard from Shekau who last appeared in a video in March following speculation that he had been killed, declaring that the end had come for him.
The group under his leadership carried out series of attacks in several states in the North East, killing thousands and displacing millions of Nigerians.
The group also carried out several abductions including the 276 Chibok schoolgirls in April 2014, who are yet to be rescued.
Abubakar Shekauhas been pronounced killed on several occasions by the Nigerian military.
Nigerians were quick to reacted to the new leader of Boko Haram who the supposed is finally dead.
