Mayowa Ahmed dies after long battle with cancer in South African hospital

Nigeria: Mayowa Ahmed has passed away on Sunday after a long battle with cancer in a South Africa hospital where she traveled to for treatment. Mayowa was earlier diagnosed with stage 4 bilateral Ovarian Mass Carcinoma as stated in a diagnosis result sheet from the Reddington Hospital in Lagos Nigeria.

Before her death, Mayowa who is a graduate of the University of Lagos was an event planner. 

A fund raising initiative to save Mayowa’s life initiated by Nollywood actress Toyin Aimakhu who pleaded with well meaning Nigerians on her Instagram page to help raise money for her treatment, a move that took centre stage on social media and about N32m ($100,000 dollars) was said to have been raised by gofundme.com online platform.

Mayowa was later flown to South Africa on August 11 for treatment after controversy trailed the fund raising process.
