Man told he was executed 10 years ago in China

China: In a funny mix-up, a 45-year-old Chinese man identified as Mr. Chen with the same name as a notorious criminal was told by officials that he had been dead 10 years ago. This comes after an attempt by the Chinese government to put an end to the common occurrence of 'repeat identities.'

The situation had arisen when Mr. Chen, applied for a certificate to prove he had no criminal convictions for his new job in Guangzhou.

Police however, rejected his application after records showed he was convicted and executed in 2006 for kidnapping.

According to reports from the Guangdong Radio and Television Network, they later discovered that the conviction belonged to another man who had the same name and identity card number.

But despite such a record, Mr. Chen insisted that he’s been living a normal life since the said “execution” 10 years ago and hasn’t experienced any difficulties before.
“I was even allowed to apply for a travel permit to Hong Kong and Macau from the government.” Also adding, “All these things are just puzzling” he said.
The certificate was later issued to him after Guangzhou police claim there had been a mistake.

Such a mix up is a common re occurrence in several cases of “repeat identity” in China, as a result of an administrative error which issue citizens an identity card number that had already been issued.
