Heartbreaking image of 5-year-old boy injured and drenched in blood waiting for medical attention after he was rescued in an airstrike in Syria

Syria: This image of a bloodied little 5-year-old boy identified as Omran Daqneesh sitting at the back of an ambulance after he was rescued from an air strike in the city of Aleppo Syria on Wednesday has become a symbol of the terror the country has been plagued in since the beginning of the country’s civil war in March 2011. This image went viral after it was first shared on social media yesterday as diplomatic figures call for a cease fire. See more photos below

Omran was one of five children injured during a military air strike yesterday.

The photo shows Omran covered in dirt from head-to-toe and looking distraught as he stares into the distance, an image of a person who is barely aware of the horror around him.

Footage shows Omran finally realizing he is injured and bleeding as he tries to wipe the dust off his face, while he continues to patiently wait for medics to attend to him.
