Florida man ditches 5 year old son who couldn't keep up during police chase

US: 27-year-old Dania Beach man, Jerry McCabe who reportedly fled from his car with his 5-year-old son during an attempted traffic by the police kept urging his son to run faster but had to ditch his son when they approached a barrier and jumped over a barbed wire fence because his son couldn't keep up said police.



According to an arrest report by Pembroke Pines police, McCabe was driving a Dodge Charger without a valid license when an officer tried to stop him but McCabe refused to stop and this led to a car chase by the officer weaving in and out of traffic.

McCabe's car two front side tires blew out, which made McCabe and his son to get out of the car and started running away, the report said.

Police report said the officer chased after them on foot and ordered them to stop, but they kept running. The police officer heard McCabe yelling at the boy to keep up during the pursuit.

McCabe then left his son and jumped over the barbed-wire fence while the officer remained behind and stayed with the boy.

A security guard at a nearby building who saw the incident agreed to watch the boy, so the officer continued to chase McCabe again.

McCabe later surrendered when he noticed that the police officer was still chasing him.

McCabe later told police that he was taking his son to get a physical check for football and was running from the officer because he had marijuana in his car and didn’t have a valid license.

McCabe, who was arrested on Tuesday was charged for child abuse, child neglect, one count of driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest without violence, possession of marijuana and fleeing with disregard of safety to persons or property.
