Cyprus government approves new Amnesty law to help overstayed/unregistered students and workers

Cyprus: A new ''Amnesty Law'' for foreigners living in Cyprus (TRNC) has been passed and approved on Friday August 12 by the Cyprus (TRNC) government as "Turkish Workers" and students in Cyprus (TRNC) who has failed to renew their work and resident permit overtime can now breathe a sigh of relief.

According to a Cypriot lawyer, Ramadan Sanivar who threw more light on the new Amnesty law, he said the law was approved to help foreigners with the following issues and more;
Resident Permit (Muhaceret) Debts: For those living in Cyprus (TRNC) for more than one year without Resident Permit (Muhaceret) or expired permit (Muhaceret).
Unregistered Students: For students who had freeze their academic semesters or signed out of school for a very long time thereby not having a valid Resident permit (Muhaceret).
Deported: Those that have been deported for reasons of illegal stay in Cyprus.
According to Ramadan, Cyprus immigration law states that any one living in Cyprus (TRNC) without a valid Resident/expired Resident or work permit (Muhaceret) attracts a daily fine of 82tl (Turkish lira).

With the new Amnesty law in place, the good news is that these debts can now be cancelled and one can still have a Legal Stay in Cyprus (TRNC).

The new Amnesty Law also applies to other foreigners including Turkish workers in Cyprus (TRNC) who has failed to renew their work permit overtime.
