9 Police killed in Afghan Taliban attacks

Afghanistan: Taliban attacks on police checkpoints in north of Afghanistan has left at least nine people dead on Saturday night said Afghan authorities.


Baghlan province police chief, General Noor Habib Gulbahari, said the militants had attacked three police checkpoints adding that five militants were killed in the attack and three wounded in the following gun battles in the Baghlan-e-Markazi district.

Gulbahari said battles was still going on elsewhere in the region.

Spokes for the Taliban Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the attacks, and added that police weapons had been seized.

Taliban fighters have frequently attacked police check points as they are easy targets, and present them the opportunities to seize vehicles, weapons and ammunition.
