11 dead as new storm forms off Mexico

Mexico: At least 11 people have been killed by Hurricane Earl as Tropical Storm Javier is forming off Mexico's Pacific Coast, says the US National Hurricane Center.

The Javier storm had a sustained winds of about 45 mph (75kph) and was located about 110 miles (175km) west of Manzanillo with the storm moving west-northwest at about 12 mph (19kph).

According to weather forecasters, Javier should pass over or near the coast and then approach the resort-dotted southern portion of the Baja California Peninsula by Monday.

Heavy rains between 4 and 8 inches (10 to 20cm) is expected, along with high winds.

Javier arrives following a brief hurricane Earl, beforeit hit Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula, dumping rain and causing deadly landslides across parts of eastern Mexico.

Governor Veracruz, a Gulf Coast state Javier Duarte on Sunday said at least 10 people had died in landslides in the towns of Cocomatepec, Tequila and Huayacocotla.
Officials had earlier reported six deaths also.

Officials in the central state of Puebla on Sunday also reported at least one death in a landslide in the mountain town of Xaltepec that destroyed 13 homes.

According to a statement from the state government, authorities are still searching the area for residents who were reported missing.
