US deploys 47 troops to South Sudan

South Sudan: The White House on Wednesday said it has deployed 47 troops to South Sudan to protect US citizens and the US embassy after an outbreak of deadly violence in the country during the weekend that led to the loss of hundreds of lives many others displaced from their homes.

In a statement, the White House said;

"These deployed personnel will remain in South Sudan until the security situation becomes such that their presence is no longer needed,"

The White House added that an additional 130 military personnel presently in Djibouti are also ready to provide support as necessary.
The combat-ready troops touched down in South Sudan on Tuesday.
