US sanctions North Korean leader, and 10 others, over human rights abuses

North Korea: North Korean officials including leader Kim Jong Un were on Wednesday sanctioned by the United States of America for what it describe as “notorious abuses of human rights.”

This will be the first time the United States had identified the North Korean leader as a direct target for sanctions, and diplomats say the decision will provoke the nuclear-armed country, where the leader is considered flawless.
The US Treasury Department in a statement, said the sanctions, which is targeted at property and other assets within US jurisdiction, also extend to 10 other individuals and five entities.
Acting Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Adam J. Szubin said in the statement;
“Under Kim Jong Un, North Korea continues to inflict intolerable cruelty and hardship on millions of its own people, including extrajudicial killings, forced labor, and torture,”
According to reports, a report by the US State Department to Congress listed the names of those responsible for the commission of serious human rights abuses and censorship in North Korea with the North Korean leader topping the list.
