US Democratic Party National Committe apologises to Sanders

US: The US Democratic National Committee has issued an apology to Senator Bernie Sanders after leaked emails by website WikiLeaks suggested the party's leadership had worked to undermine his presidential campaign.

In a statement released by the DNC on Monday, the first day of the party's convention in Philadelphia, it reads;

"On behalf of everyone at the DNC, we want to offer a deep and sincere apology to Senator Sanders, his supporters, and the entire Democratic Party for the inexcusable remarks made over email."

The DNC said the emails did not demonstrate the committee's "steadfast commitment to neutrality during the nominating process".
