Turkish Cypriot people 'relieved' at failed coup in Turkey
Cyprus: Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
President Mustafa Akinci in a statement to state-run Bayrak broadcaster on Tuesday said that the failure of the July
15 attempted coup in Turkey had gladdens the TRNC people adding that the people of North Cyprus had also taken a stand against the coup.
"The path of development goes through democracy," he said.
Akinci who noted that Turkey plays a significant role in Turkish Cypriots, appreciated the fact that "no community
in Turkey commended the coup as it has done in the past".
Turkish government has claimed that the attempted
failed coup was orchestrated by followers of U.S.-based Fetullah Gulen, who is
accused of a long-running campaign to topple the state through his
supporters within Turkish institutions and government particularly the military,
police and judiciary, forming parallel state.
