Turkey: 35 Kurdish militants has been killed by Turkish army after they attempted to invade a military base in the southeastern Hakkari province of Turkey, said military officials.
Military officials say the overnight attack occurred few hours after clashes between soldiers and militants from the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Hakkari's Cukurca district where eight soldiers were killed.
The militants then tried to capture the base in three different groups but were spotted by aerial reconnaissance.

Turkish military then carried out an air strike on the militants, killing 23 of them, while twelve more militants were killed in a ground operation said officials.
25 Turkish soldiers were also wounded during the clashes.

Turkey’s military continues to struggle with insurgency in the Kurdish southeast of the country as its senior ranks is currently undergoing a major shake-up after the July 15 failed coup attempt.

Turkey on Thursday announced an overhaul of the armed forces, as 99 colonels promoted to the rank of general or admiral and about 1700 military personnel discharged dishonorably over their alleged roles in the coup.

Around 40 per cent of all generals and admirals in the military have been dismissed following the coup.
