Turkey detains 37 suspects over Istanbul airport attack
Turkey: Seven
people has been jailed by a Turkish court pending their trial on
terrorism charges over last month's suicide bombing at the Ataturk
Airport Istanbul's which killed 45 people and left more than hubdreds of
people wounded, bringing the number in
custody to 37.
The seven suspects who media reports claim were all foreign nationals were detained on charges of "membership of an armed terrorist group" and being accomplices to murder.
A government official said the attackers were Russian, Uzbek and Kyrgyz nationals, and Turkish with other media reports stating that 11 of the detained attackers were Russian.
President Tayyip Erdogan had said Islamic State militants from the former Soviet Union were behind the attack.
Three bombers opened fire to create panic outside the airport on June 28 before two of them got inside and blew themselves up.
The third militant then detonated his explosives outside the entrance to the international arrivals terminal.
